ANTHROPOCENE TATTOO

2016

On August 29th 2016, the science community announced the earth had officially left the Holocene after 11,700 years, and entered a new epoch called the Anthropocene. The statement was made during the International Geological Congress in South Africa. On the same day, artist Justin Brice Guariglia - an artist committed to exploring the Anthropocene - decided to commemorate the event by getting NASA's global temperature index (from 1880-2016) tattooed onto his arm.

This is an on-going project, and the tattoo will be updated every five years to coincide with the current data.
